(a zip file containing html, css, javascript, and image icons) NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE This software is intended for education, research, and game design. You may use, distribute, and modify this code under the terms of the MIT License, with the Commons Clause. Since its modest beginnings as Darwin Pond in the mid 1990's, Gene Pool has undergone a long and colorful evolution. I created the browser/javascript version to make it easier for artists, researchers, and educators with coding resources to create variations. A basic API to the simulation allows developers to expand interactive functionality. Please contact me if you have questions or suggestions about the code: (ventrella@protonmail.com). NO CORPORATE ENTITY The code was available on github until October, 2025, when I chose to make it available here instead. It will also be made available on the Internet Archive. SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE I have made a point to separate the browser-specific interactive aspects from the core functionality. The simulation code is pure bare-bones vanilla Javascript. There is an option to use a 3D renderer developed by Brian Dodd. The code may not appear like typical Javascript, and it has a specific object-oriented structure. More details are in the README file in the download. |
